Chalmers Rosato

Chalmers Rosato is dry and textural with a detailed yet delicate profile made from 100% Aglianico from our top block. Drunk in situ while also lending itself to various dishes and cuisines, it’s a wine that is delicious when young and can develop more savoury textural notes over a few years cellaring. With a lifted mix of strawberry leaf, rhubarb, rose petals, blood orange, cassia and enoki mushroom, it is moreish on the palate leading to a soft grip and persistent drive.

The first vintage of Chalmers Rosato was in 2009, in some years its been a blend of multiple varieties, and in others a single variety, but in most years there has been a common key thread, Aglianico. Aglianico is a variety that is very close to our hearts and lends itself to Rose style wines with its fine structure, savoury earth and perfumed natural makeup. Now made from 100% Aglianico, its a wine that’s modelled on the dry textural and delicate wines from Campania, Italy, it speaks of a sense of place and made to reflect the Australian drinking culture and climate.

The fruit sourced for this Rosato is from the top block of our Heathcote vineyard. Situated between 215-225 m above sea level, it is more rocky with a complex array of different soils and geology. Here the vines work hard producing low yields with a lovely mineral and perfumed personality. Aglianico is hand picked, whole bunch pressed and wild fermented in old French barrels and aged for up to 6 months on fine lees.
